Look what was found on the north bank of the Clyde about a month ago. Rather fine mohair domes – entirely suitable to punctuate the cold crisp air currently being experienced in the northern hemisphere. I hope they are still there shining through snow and fog – friendly beacons for all.

This is a taste of the work of Karel Vreeburg. If you are in the Netherlands, and in Haarlem specifically you should take the time to speak with Karel and review his work. Yes, you can look at our pictures, and you can and should check his website – the fact remains you do need to stand by these pieces and marvel.

Fine instruments worked in a confined space inside the rock or stone that the creation is then presented within. That original rock creates a frame around the art – but the frame is integral to the piece. The work is conceived and executed with great skill, passion, vision and mathematical precision.

As an artist Karel feels that he is uncovering the secret of the inner stone. Part creator but also as a medium, he is giving the stone a voice and freeing its concealed character. Stone is the symbol for eternity and as a mineral, it is a tangible link to physics and the forces driving the universe.

International Sand Sculpture Festival 2010 – Scheveningen Beach

International Sand Sculpture Festival 2010 – Scheveningen Beach. It was a bitterly cold and wet day the day we went to Scheveningen Beach to view the sand sculptures. The sculptures were not completed on time due to the terrble conditions. The sand is a special type imported for the sand sculpture exhibition every year.

This is only a sample of the sculptures – there were many more – we just got far too cold and had to partake of warming liquids, and purchase an extra layer of clothing to get through the day.
